Glass swimming pools are constructed with acrylic walls, similar to aquariums!
Acrylic/glass swimming pools are unique and add a modern style to your backyard. The look of glass and clean lines add to the modern look. There are many different materials that you can add to your acrylic/glass swimming pool to change the look. These materials range from dark tile to light-colored concrete to mosaic tiles. Most of these swimming pools are raised and have an acrylic window or two, but some are acrylic all around. Most acrylic swimming pools are designed with the pool corners as structural pillars to hold the weight of the acrylic and the water that is in the swimming pool.
In addition, there is a lot that goes into the design and construction of acrylic/glass swimming pools. Structural engineering must be done correctly to maintain a level height of the water. This is especially if the pool is also zero-edge with water flowing over the edges into a basin.
The Splash Pools construction team has extensive experience with acrylic/glass swimming pools throughout Southern California. We have built acrylic/glass swimming pools in Irvine, Yorba Linda, Newport Coast, Lake Forest, Chino Hills, and more cities.
Acrylic Swimming Pool Design
This pool above has a very modern look with straight-clean lines, square columns and LED lights along the acrylic pool walls. The outdoor living area is adjacent to the pool with an acrylic window into the pool. The tile on the pool columns matches the house.
It took coordination to make a 2.5” thick piece of acrylic fit perfectly into slots within columns while maintaining structural integrity and preventing leaks. We had to coordinate with a structural engineer and the acrylic manufacturer to make it work properly. The acrylic had to be craned in over the house because of the weight.
With a vanishing edge on the front three sections of the pool and a negative edge along the back, it was imperative that the pool is perfectly level and to have the water filtration set up specifically so that water evenly flows over each wall. The water that flows over the front, goes into a trough that ties into to the back negative edge basin where water recirculates the pool.
Acrylic Spa Design
This pool shown above has a circle acrylic spa that is in the swimming pool, surrounded by water. The spa is a single 9-foot diameter piece of acrylic with 2.5 inch thick walls and sits twelve inches above the pool. To make the spa the focal point, we incorporated strip LED lights around the spa so you can control the color separate from the pool.
